What Now? The Former USSR Today
Introduction: In December of 1990, the Union
of the Soviet Socialists Republics ceased to exist after 73 years. As part
of a ten year aniversary special for CNN. You and production team will
visit one of the former republics for a TV special to answer this question:
Are the people of the former Soviet Union
better off than they were under a Communist dictatorship?
Task: Your production team consists of the following
four people:
Producer-Leads the group, oversees the production
of the PowerPoint, keeps the team on task, etc. You will also arrange
the rehearsals and see tha the team finishes on time.
Commentator-Will be the narrator and write the script
with in text citations.
Director-Will select and arrange the pictures, quicktime
video, charts, graphs, maps, and captions for all PowerPoint slide.
Researcher-Will research extra information from books
and the internet that the group will need. You will also prepare
the bibliography. Everyone in the group will read the handouts.
Using PowerPoint and the Boxlight, your team will
produce a segment of a 5 -7 minute newscast answering the following questions:
1. Give basic information about your country
including: location, GDP, birth rate, average annual income, etc.
2. Describe the government of this country
today, include any political problems.
3. Describe the economic situation in the
country you visited today. Use photographs, charts, graphs, and statistics.
4. Answer the focus question: "Are
the people of this republic better off than they were under a Communist
dictatorship?" Explain your answer. Then make 3 recommendations
for this country and predict what will happen in ten years when CNN returns.
