Welcome to Scout’s World 1933-1937

Under Construction

At the opening of To Kill a Mockingbird, an adult Scout recalls the events in 1933, when she was 6 years old. You and your group will construct a book that will give us background about Scout’s world in the 1930's to help us better understand the events in the book. Use in text citations.

Introducing Jean Louise "Scout" Finch- Each person in the group will write a paragraph about Scout according to the specific directions given by Ms.Litsey. Each person also include an illustration of one quotation from the book.

Her home, neighborhood, and town-Draw an illustrated map of Scout’s home, neighborhood and town based on the descriptions in the book. Use at least 5 quotations and 5 pictures.

Family, friends, and neighbors-Each person in your group will do an "open mind" for any two of the following characters: Calpurnia, Atticus, Jem, Dill, Mrs. DuBois, Miss Maudi, Miss Rachel, Aunt Alexandra, Boo Radley, The Euells, and The Cunninghams.

Entertainment-Based on the story and your research, what kind of entertainment was available to Scout? Include: books, movies, games they played, radio, etc. Use pictures, captions, and quotations.

School-What was school like in Maycomb? Use pictures and quotations from the book.

Scottsboro Trial-Write a newspaper account of the real trial that inspired the book. Include a timeline.
